R2R Mini Red and Orange Tour Event 4: Oundle Tennis Club on 24th April 2016

Oundle Tennis Club hosted the fourth event of the R2R Mini Tour.

It was a sunny but cold morning for the 12 Mini Red players who were competing. They  were split into 2 groups of 6 players with winner and runner up both progressing to the semi finals. Group A saw Charlotte Byron edge top spot ahead of Archie Blackburn 10-7 to decide the top two positions of this group. Group B saw Monty Adams win his group without losing a match, also through in runner up place was Lewis Clarke who only lost one match, to Monty.  The first of the ‘all Oakham’ semis saw Monty Adams beat Archie Blackburn 10-2 and in the second semi Lewis Clarke defeated Charlotte Byron 10 – 4.

In the 3rd/4th playoff Archie got his revenge on Charlotte for his earlier defeat by winning 10-6.

In the final there were many long rallies but it was Monty who victorious over Lewis, taking the final 10-6.

The Mini Orange Event in the afternoon saw 5 players compete in a round robin format, playing the best of 3 tie breaks. The matches were played in good spirits, especially when a few balls nearly hit the umpires! Winner and Runner Up was actually decided on the final match of the day which saw Sam Marshall (Oundle) play Warwick Harrison-Smith (Virgin Active), both players having won all their previous matches. This match did not disappoint. The first tie break could have been won by either player but it was Sam that finally took it 9-7. Sam then followed it up to take the 2nd tie break 7-3 to win the match and his first ever tournament with a impressive 9-7, 7-3 scoreline.
